The press visit aimed to inform the press and the public of the physical progress of the Project in the field, to show local government authorities the achievements on the ground and strengthen their membership and generate reports and a presence of the OMVG and the Energy Project in the media of the 4 States.

The team has visited the construction line L7, Brikama and Soma substations and storage sites, the Vinci TTE storage camp in Kanfenda Village and meet with some Affected People by the Project.

The progress of the Project in The Gambia

The Scope in The Gambia comprises of three Lots of Soma – Birkelane – L6a finance by KFW, Soma-Tanaf – L6b funded by World Bank which contractor is KEC international, Soma - Brikama Line L7 contractor is VINCI and Brikama & Substation P2, Finance by Kuwaiti Fund, contractor is EIFFAGE Elecnor.

Works in Soma substation works are in advance progress with base camp and office completed, platforms completed and pillars near completion. In Brikama Substation clearance is given for works to start and facilities are being prepared for immediate start of works. All transformers, ancillaries, auxiliaries are stored at the Brikama substation site.

On the Brikama –Soma line, Vinci has started vigorous bush clearing for line routing. A big camp containing offices and materials is completed fully occupied with most materials for the works stored on this site. 300 containers of pylons have started arriving with 15 containers uploaded from the port weekly to site is ongoing. Stakeholder engagement and sensitization are ongoing.

On the Birkelane -Soma–Tanaf materials are in Kaolack and preparation for the start of works are at advance stage.

The benefits of the Project for The Gambia

The good news is many Gambians are employed and currently working on the project at different levels and hope that more employment will continue to be created for Gambian youths.

The Benefits of this project will override Energy issues. We will continue to count on everyone support for timely implementation of this great Energy project that has huge potentials to transform the living standard people of the four member countries.

Compensation

472 (Four Hundred and Seventy-two) PAPs were compensated amounting to around D15,500,000 (Fifteen Million, Five Hundred Thousand Dalasis).
